“1 October” Why?
“What was the reason 64-year-old millionaire Stephen Paddock committed mass murder?” in Las Vegas, NV, has been a question at the forefront of the media reports. Questions abound. The deadliest shooting in recent US history, leaving 58 people dead in addition to the shooter, and 489 wounded, has puzzled criminology think tanks, investigative reporters, and the general public.
Current investigators have followed a thousand leads, but say that there is still “no clear motive or reason why” Paddock carried out the mass shooting on October 1. According to officials briefed on the investigation, the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit which is doing a workup and profile of Paddock, are baffled. Speculation concerning why Paddock committed this crime raises troubling questions. Equally troubling are why there seem to have been few if any warning signals.
Jonathon Speece, a gunsmith at Guns & Guitars in Mesquite, Nevada, where Paddock had purchased weapons, didn’t seem to notice any of these signs. He said “He (Paddock) was just like anybody else. All of the locals around here are asking why he did it. Nobody has any answers. It doesn’t make sense. I don’t think I’ll ever understand it.”
People are scratching their heads in puzzlement. What they don’t seem to realize is that the Bible has wisdom relevant to all situations in our lives. This is no exception.
In this lesson we will search the scriptures seeking answers to the “Why?” questions surrounding this and similar tragedies.
