When you hear the Christmas jingle, “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” may be the only time of the year you think seriously about your overall record of behavior.” “He’s making a list, he’s checking it twice . . .” are words that remind us that someone is watching us and there will be consequences for our behavior. Actually the matter may be more serious than we have feared.
Twenty-four hours a day cyberbots are gathering information around the world from your internet activity in order to form a behavioral profile that can be sold to advertizing agencies (and who knows who besides). Software is available to schools to track, monitor and record behavior of all their students. Michael Kelley states in an article written for the Business Insider, that NSA has been gathering information on US citizens for over a decade. China actively monitors the activity of its citizens. Citizens who travel abroad and do not behave themselves are contacted by authorities when they return home. “The Guardian” reports that “The UK is being watched by a network of 1.85m CCTV cameras…” Maybe we should be concerned about whether we are “naughty or nice” in more than just the Christmas season.
Although this lesson could focus on a number of topics, our purpose will be to consider the fact that mankind has always been under surveillance. God knows what we are doing every minute of our lives. Furthermore, He knows what we are thinking. Our behavior will have eternal consequence; thus we should consider what the Bible has to say about this matter.
