Divine Intervention

Sheryl Sandberg, the Chief Operating Officer for Facebook, stood in front of the airline ticket counter transferring her flight from Asiana Airlines to United.  She had decided to use her saved-up air miles to purchase the tickets for her family members who were traveling with her.  Little did she know that in a few hours the Asiana Airlines Boeing 777 would crash land at the San Francisco International airport.  Was it pure luck that her group had changed airlines?  Was it a happen-chance decision that paid dividends?  Had God intervened for some unknown reason to protect someone in their group of family members?

Divine intervention does not always involve judgment.  Sometimes divine intervention comes in the form of mercy.  Sometimes it comes in the form of protective cover.  Sometimes it is the result of prayer.  How does a Christian know if God is involved in the events of his/her life?  These and many other questions surface as we read the news item selected for discussion in this lesson.

Lesson Objective:  By the end of the class the students should have a greater understanding of how and why God intervenes in the events of history and a new appreciation for the value of intercessory prayer.
