The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce president, Leron Gubler said, “When people are unhappy with one of our honorees, we would hope that they would project their anger in more positive ways than to vandalize a California State landmark. Our democracy is based on respect for the law. People can make a difference by voting and not destroying public property.” Shortly before this statement was issued, James Otis dressed in the attire of a city construction worker complete with reflective vest and hard hat, became a destruction crew of one busy with a sledgehammer and pickaxe at 6801 Hollywood Blvd near the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, CA. The object of his anger: Trump’s Star.
Why did James Otis destroy public property? He assigned guilt either by assumption or by association. Whether Donald Trump was guilty of the allegations brought against him is not the objective of this lesson. Rather, the news item gives us the opportunity to consider what God’s Word says about false accusations and how the Christian should respond to them.
